Team Fishel has a reputation
throughout Texas for our expertise
in the telecommunications industry.
The Dallas office will soon be
recognized for their expertise in
electrical distribution as well.
Don Payne joined Team Fishel’s
Dallas office in the summer of
2006 with the goal of expanding
the service offering to include
electrical distribution. Don has 42
years of hands-on experience in
the electric industry, including 22
years spent as owner of an
underground electrical business.
Garland Power and Light, the third
largest municipal utility company in
Texas, serves 68,000 customers
and is located 50 miles from the
Dallas office. Team Fishel was
added to their list of approved
bidders in the fall and the first
award, a 3-year maintenance
contract, followed soon thereafter.
Team Fishel is providing a variety
of services to Garland Power
including running new electric
lines for street lights, secondary
replacements, new primary lines,
and upgrading existing cable.
Teammates from our Florida operation
traveled to Garland to assist
with an aerial feeder build. Their
most recent project is directional
boring to install feeders into a
substation with 1000-MCM cable
and building associated risers.
To get the contract underway, they
needed some Teammates with
experience in underground high
voltage work. “We hired 15 to 20
Teammates with electric
experience and will need more,”
said Dean Pence, Dallas Area
Manager. “We had to get a couple
rock drills and purchase other
high-end equipment to support
these new crews.”
According to Pence, he intends
to grow the electrical business
in-house and expand on what they
have already accomplished.
Payne is grateful to Garland Power
and Light for this opportunity.
“James Bodine, T & D Coordinator
for Garland, has been very helpful
and supportive in bringing us along
as a new contractor,” he said.
Central Region Vice President
Randy Blair is excited about what
this project means for his operation
and Team Fishel as a whole.
“In the past, we have focused on
telecom projects in the Dallas/Fort
Worth market,” said Blair. “The
Garland Power and Light contract
has enabled us to diversify our
business. This is very important
as we continue to pursue
Operational Excellence.”
