Fleet Management Lean 5-S Audit Program Update
Have you noticed a change in the shops
around Team Fishel? Do they seem
more organized and efficient? It is
not your imagination. What you have
experienced is the practice of LEAN.
What is LEAN? LEAN is a management
style that maximizes Customer value by
attacking waste.
The shops have been using two LEAN tools, 5-S Audit
and Standard Work, to improve customer value and meet
Fishel's goal of improving productivity by 10%. 5-S is
a method of visual organization focused on maximizing
productivity and fixing quality and safety issues efficiently.
Standard Work is a standardized process to ensure work
is done correctly and in an efficient manner every time.
The shops have experienced productivity
gains of 20% since the implementation of
LEAN, equating to a savings of $354,000
or 13,000 man-hours per year. Excess
inventory in the amount of $200,000 has
also been eliminated through LEAN.
LEAN will make Team Fishel more
profitable and competitive by reducing
our equipment costs.
LEAN is one tool we all can use to achieve better
productivity. A companywide productivity increase
of 10% is the same as adding $4 million in additional
resources cost free. Just imagine what this could do for
Team Fishel and its Customers! To find out more about
LEAN, feel free to contact your Fleet Manager
or Regional Operating Vice President.
