Team Fishel is proud to announce a new contract award from Louisville Gas & Electric (LG&E). In April, our Louisville operation was awarded the installation contract for the underground streetlight system. The contract runs for two years and includes an additional two-year option.
This contract covers the entire LG&E service territory including Oldham, Jefferson, and Bullitt counties as well as a part of Meade County. Team Fishel will install new lighting, both overhead and underground, which includes setting wooden utility poles, placing duct and cable, and installation of the overhead light fixtures.
“We initially started with two overhead crews and three underground crews,” said Ken Thompson, Louisville Division Manager. “Two graduates from our Lineman Apprenticeship Program will be leading the overhead crews." Thompson expects to add at least two additional crews in the future.
Thompson and Supervisors Tony Hunt and Paul Bruce all will share responsibilities of managing the projects and delegating the workload. Their biggest challenge has been ramping up and attacking the large backlog of projects left by the previous contractor. Thompson estimates that 100 projects are currently in the backlog with another 200 projects in the design phase.
The Louisville Teammates are familiar with streetlight work as they held this contract until 2003 when it was awarded to a competitor. The new contractor didn’t have the proper support mechanisms in place to handle the workload. Because of this, LG&E was forced to bid the large backlog of work that developed.
