/ Phoenix Crew Completes Project at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway
Phoenix Crew Overcomes Tight Time Schedule to Complete Project at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway
Sprint/Nextel needed to build two fiber projects to support NASCAR at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway by the end of January or early February. In December, they learned that the road course had been leased to an automobile manufacturer for testing and filming. They were prohibited from accessing the Speedway during January.
This left the holiday week between Christmas and New Year’s Day as the only time the work could be done. Faced with this extremely tight time schedule, Sprint Field Operations Manager Richard Linebarger contacted Phoenix Area Manager Bill Yackley to see if Team Fishel could help. Yackley quickly assigned a crew. On December 26 Team Fishel Supervisor Sigi Trevizo met with Linebarger in Las Vegas to line out the project while the crew was en route from Phoenix.
On December 27 Foreman Carlos Loya and his crew immediately went to work placing innerduct and fiber from the relocated NASCOW (NASCAR Cell On Wheels) station to the media center in the Grandstands for the “Fan View” system being installed.
“Fan View” enables the NASCAR fans to monitor their favorite cars and drivers via hand-held video and generates a significant amount of revenue at each event. The crew was prohibited from placing any vehicles on the infield grassy area between pit row and the track. They devised a plan to pull the innerduct from the paved pit row to the vault through the grass.
The weather at the Speedway was cold and windy. The crew overcame those conditions, security restrictions and unfamiliar conduit structures and completed the project on December 28.
“I would like to personally thank the Phoenix Team Fishel Management for responding in the manner they did and commend the Team Fishel crew that perfectly executed the work for these two high profile projects,” says Linebarger. “They all truly went above and beyond expectations, especially given the holiday period.”
